Our Moloch

“The state itself bows down to Moloch, and protects the sacrifices made to him. So let us celebrate the falling bodies and rising statues as a demonstration of our fealty, our bondage, to the great god Gun.”

Look, people, now is the time to talk about guns.  Now is the BEST time to talk about guns.  Now is when people are listening.  Acting like it is somehow offensive or disrespectful to “politicize” a tragedy is a ridiculous idea, because if you don’t think that any of these acts were political, you have another think coming.

Fuck you, people who say, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” Sorry, assholes, this isn’t the time for semantics. Guns are the tools that enable people who kill people to kill lots and lots of people with ease. And they’re fucking efficient. According to Mother Jones, which has done excellent research on this topic, there’s a clear relationship between the rise in civilian firearms and the rise in mass shootings; they counted two per year on average since 1982, and 24 of the 61 cases they looked at occurred after 2006. This year alone there have been six mass shootings with 110 people injured and killed, a record number. In 1995 there were about 200 million guns in the hands of average Joes and Joannes. Today, there are around 300 million. That’s a 50 percent jump. If you don’t think that guns have anything to do with the rise in mass shootings, you’re a fucking idiot.

We would become much more sane, much healthier, as a society if we could bring ourselves to acknowledge that misogyny is a serious and pervasive problem, and that the twisted way so many men feel about women, combined with the absurdly easy availability of guns, is a toxic mix of the most tragic proportions.

GOP Platform Calls for Broader Gun Rights, Unlimited Clips

Because if I could think of a step in the right direction for America after, oh, five or six mass shootings this summer, it’s definitely letting anyone with a gun have it anywhere, “defend themselves” (i.e., shoot someone) in any place where they have a legal right to be, and letting them load up on as much ammo and as many clips as they want.

What could go wrong?

American Becomes Laughingstock of Canada After Letter to Editor Lamenting Lack of Handgun During Mild Confrontation

“What concerned me is two young men just approached us and stopped us, stopping us by being in our path, and [began] talking to us without even being welcome to talk to us. They just took it upon themselves to yell at us,” Wawra told CBC News, adding that “he should have the right to protect himself if things had escalated.”

Translation:  I should have been able to shoot these two men for speaking to us.

Good going!  ’MERICA.
