When public schools are judged by how much art and music they have, by how many science experiments their students perform, by how much time they leave for recess and play, and by how much food they grow rather than how many tests they administer, then I will be confident that we are preparing our students for a future where they will be creative participants and makers of history rather than obedient drones for the ruling economic elite.

Steve King is an idiot. We knew this. He has a long track record of being an idiot.
In this case, he’s complaining that there aren’t enough calories being served to children in public schools, that requiring government-funded schools to provide healthy meals to kids is “the nanny state personified” and that parents are saying their children are “starving,” despite the program expanding into breakfast and snack programs for at-risk children and promoting the development of healthy eating habits.
Of course the fat little fuckers are starving. They’re used to taking in 2200 calories of fat, salt, and sugar every day. Holy shit, they have to eat a vegetable that hasn’t been processed and fried now. Everybody panic.

except I have to go to work :( but I will TAKE A DAY OFF JUST SO I CAN RUN AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD ALL DAY

In short, Bobby Jindal approved a program to help out Louisiana’s failing school system by funding vouchers so kids could go to private school.
Problem is, a large number of these private schools are ALSO evangelical Christian, and buy their textbooks from A Beka Books and Bob Jones University. These are some of the gems from the textbooks they’ll be using:
And other lovely items. Go ahead, go see for yourself.

Today in Polidicks:
“House Republicans recently proposed cuts to nutrition assistance that will kick 280,000 low-income children off automatic enrollment in the Free School Lunch and Breakfast Program. Those same kids and 1.5 million other people will also lose their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly food stamp benefits) that help them afford food at home. Ten years’ worth of these nutrition cuts could be prevented for the price of one year of tax cuts on 3,340 multimillion dollar estates that House Republicans are protecting in their budget.”
They cited the school lunch program as “lower-priority” spending. Just goes to show they’re the Party of the Rich. (And further proves my point that, regardless of economic circumstance, you better have that baby, but after it’s born, fuck you, your kid can starve for all we care.)
this is me right now.
